Some Good Reasons 19
Her feet carried her across to him quickly. He could almost feet her rush up towards him. "No Joey--"
"What?" He pulled his arm from his eyes and looked at her and knew then that they were due for a HUGE discussion.
She shook her head to tell him that his choice was wrong. "I want you to do it."
"I can't," he said. He didn't want to say that, but he knew he had to. Being with her was something that he had to do. He needed to be a father, a husband, a son to people who all needed him in Orlando. "You're right. I can't make you stop going to school because I got a part. I can't pull this family apart whenever I get a neat idea in my head."
"No," she said, "You have to do this."
He narrowed his eyes. "What are you talking about?"
"You have to do this," she said and moved closer to him." Tears suddenly filled her eyes. "You have to do this Joey."
"Honey," he said sitting up so he could see her better. "Honey, don't cry about it. It's nothing to cry about. Really."
"No," she said, "You have to do this Joey."
"Joey I saw you on that stage and I swear that if you don't go to New York and do this play I'll never forgive you."
"What?" He was totally confused now. If she wasn't his wife he would have thought that she'd lost her mind, but he knew that there had to be some good reason for her to be acting this strangely.
"Joey. You have to do this play. You live for the stage--"
"I live for my family." He said firmly. "For you."
"No," she said, "I mean yeah, you do, but you live for the stage. You've wanted this since third grade and you have to do it."
"Why?" he said, "Why the change of opinion?"
"I saw you on stage. I saw that look in your eyes and I'm scared that if you don't get that look in your eyes again that it's going to ruin you."
"I know that you love our kids and that you love me, but there's a part of you that is missing when you're not on that stage. I've been thinking a lot lately about why we're together--" She sighed, "I know that you and I are meant for each other because I swear I'm the only woman in the world who would tell you to leave me here in Orlando and go and do this."
"Honey. I can't--"
"Joey, you have to."
"I want you to."
"Then come with me," he said pulling her to lay next to him. "I can't go up there without you."
"No," he said, "I can't do this knowing that you're down here alone with the kids."
"Ok," she said.
"Why did you change your mind all of a sudden about this?"
"Because I love you," she said.
"I always knew that there were some good reasons for me to love you back."
She smiled and curled against him until a shriek of Brianna's voice came from downstairs and then Colton yelled. "MO-OM! DA-AD! Brianna is coloring on the wall!!!!"
Somehow both of them laughed their way out of the bedroom and downstairs to find their kids.
