Let That Be Enough:  Thirteen

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With JC secluding himself in his room Farzana took the moment of peace and quiet to write. Her notebook was found, and a pen put into her hands, but she couldn't think of anything to put down so she took her things out onto the porch, and still dressed in her pajamas, sat down and looked over the hotel to the ocean.

After a moment or two she heard JC talking on the phone, not the conversation, but the sound of his voice inside so she flipped open her book to what she'd been working on the other day and tried to think. She'd been debating on whether to finish the song or not, but after seeing JC's hostility towards her she knew that she should at least take a second look.

Save you...
I can take you away...
If you want to...

"This is crap," she mumbled, ripping the page out she balled it up into a tiny ball and stuck her tongue out at it. Before she moved her notebook to her lap she turned and peaked through the window. JC was sitting on the bed with his keyboard and notebook, but wasn't doing anything with them. The phone was pressed to his ear and he was listening. Seeing that he was going to be in there for a while she started a new page, writing almost the same lyrics at first, just in a different order.

*****

If you want to
I can save you
I can take you away from here
So lonely inside
So busy out there
And all you wanted was somebody who cares

*****

She hummed the melody in her head and decided that she'd change and go work out for a while. She needed to get out and mull over the lines a little more if she was going to make this into a song.

Moving back into the room she closed the outer door, went and flipped on the airconditioning then went to find her clothes. She needed a shower before she faced the day so she knocked on JC's door.

"Can I use the restroom?" she asked when he opened up the door and looked at her. He seemed angry and she didn't want to start a fight, but she wanted to get into the bathroom. "I need to take a shower."

JC let her walk through the room while still having the phone pressed to his ear. He was ignoriing her really, not looking looking at her and not saying a word. The only way she even knew that she was welcome to use the room was that he went over to the bathroom door and opened it for her.

"Thanks," she mumbled and walked in the room closing and locking the door behind her.

Showering went quickly. Normally she'd spend time enjoying the water and the peace and quiet, but that day she needed out quickly. She needed to tire herself out a little before she could get back to work and the time away from JC would be good.

When she got out of the shower she did her hair and pulled on a pair of shorts, a sportsbra and a T-shirt then went to find her shoes. JC was still on the phone when she walked through. "I know. I know," he said into the phone. It was pressed to his ear and he was doodling or something on his notebook, "I'm coming back to Orlando soon. I need to get back into the studio."

When he didn't look up at her she moved through the room and went to drink up the rest of her coffee. She left the door open so when she went to put on her socks and shoes she heard JC again. "Lucca!" he said loudly, "What's up?...I know. I disappeared. I shouldn't have. I'll call you when I get back up to O-town....Yeah...House of Blues...shithead I know where the place is."

She rolled her eyes and tugged on her laces hard. Guys were so strange when they talked to each other. They'd rather insult each other than actuallly talk.

Finding her notebook she wrote JC a note and put it by the coffeemaker then took the key to the room and left, shoving the key in her sock as she waited for the elevator.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

JC got off the phone with Tony and went into the other room to tell her his plans. He didn't know if he'd leave her in The Keys or send her packing, but he was going back up to Orlando. He needed to go back to Orlando.

Lonliness hit him when he found that the room was empty. He hadn't expected her to leave, but he realized that she had. He wondered if he'd gone too far this time. He should have just told her, just explained that he couldn't sing anymore...at least not yet and that he needed some time to get back to the right state of mind so that he could. Dating her or thinking about her in any other way wasn't what he needed at the moment. He needed rest.

Deciding that he'd throw the television on he went over to the pull out couch and made the bed then pushed the couch back into place before he sat down and flipped on the television. He flipped through for a while then figured he'd eat breakfast since he was up so he went into the kitchen and found her note telling him that she'd be back soon.

He also found her notebook. He knew he shouldn't look at it, but the page was wide open in front of him so he took it and read her words.

"Looks good," he mumbled and took the notebook back to the couch and read it over again.

*****

Twenty minutes later he had the rest of the song written. He'd pulled a page out of her notebook and started with her stanza and began the new song.

*****

If you want to
I can save you
I can take you away from here
So lonely inside
So busy out there
And all you wanted was somebody who cares

I didn't know that it was so cold
And you needed someone to show you the way
So I took your hand and we figured out
That when the tide comes I'd take you away

I'm sinking slowly
So hurry hold me
Your hand is all I have to keep me hanging on
Please can you tell me
So I can finally see
Where you go when you're gone

If you want to
I can save you
I can take you away from here
So lonely inside
So busy out there
And all you wanted was somebody who cares

All you wanted was somebody who cares
If you need me you know I'll be there
Oh, yeah

If you want to
I can save you
I can take you away from here
So lonely inside
So busy out there
And all you wanted was somebody who cares

Please can you tell me
So I can finally see
Where you go when you're gone

He was startled when the door opened and she came inside.

"What are you doing with my notebook?" she asked immediately. SHe came over and grabbed it away from him. "Why were you looking at my things?"

He looked up at her. "I saw it and got inspired and wrote the rest of it."

She read over the lyrics. "Sing it for me."

"Why do you want me to sing it to you?" he asked.

"Because you haven't sung since I got here and I think it's strange."

"I can't sing," he explained.

"You mean you won't," she said.

"No," he stated, "I can't." He opened his mouth and tried to sing a note and he started to sing something, but his voice cut off almost as soon as he started, "I've been this way for a few days now. Every time I open my mouth to sing my voice stops."

"Really?" she asked.

"Really."

He could see the look in her eyes. This wasn't going to be good. Most times he knew that he freaked out a little bit, but now that he saw the worried look on her face he knew he needed to do something about it.

"Have you talked to a doctor or anything?"

"No," he said.

"Well don't you think you should see a throat specialist or something?"

"It's all in my head," he said.

"All in your head?" she asked.

He didn't want to get into this. He didn't need to pull out everything now and spill his guts. "Trust me."

"How do you know that it's not something else?"

"I just know," he said, "Trust me on this one."

"You really should get it checked out. I know that Johnny and Melinda and whoever else over there would want you to do it."

"I'd have to go to Orlando to do it," he said, "That's where my doctor is."

"Then what are you waiting for?" she asked.

"Well if I go I'd check out of the hotel and you'd have to go home," he said.

"That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard," she said, "You're going to risk your voice, your livelihood because you're worried about me going home?"

"You wanna go with me?" he asked.

"Go with you?" she asked.

"Yeah," he said, "To Orlando. I need to go up there anyway because a friend of mine has a show at the House of Blues, but you should go with me."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah," he said, "We'll fly up tomorrow."

"I can't afford a flight," she said.

"My treat," he said, "As long as you go to the doctors with me and go to Tony's show with me."

He couldn't believe that he was inviting her. He shouldn't. He knew himself well enough and having her around wasn't making it easier on him to be single. He needed to get used to the idea that he wasn't with someone anymore, but at the same time he didn't want her to leave. She liked to challenge him and he liked that.
