Somebody Needs You 8
His hands cupped her bottom and lifted her. She reacted by wrapping her legs around his middle. Taking two steps forward he pressed her back against the wall of the shower and moved his hand to guide himself into her. For a moment he didn't move. It wasn't the smartest of things to be having unprotected sex, but in the aroused state that he was in, nothing seemed right or wrong, there was no here or there no past, or future, it was the present, moment to moment sounds of his heartbeat in his ears and the soft moan that she made as he entered her that filled his whole being.
"Y-Y-You ok?" He stuttered only because he was afraid that if he moved any part of his body that he would end their love making before it started.
Her bottom lip curled up into her mouth and her top teeth bit down on it. "MmmHmm."
The water beat against his shoulder as he began to move with her. the more sensible part of his brain worried about his feet slipping out from under them and the both of them landing hurt in the shower would have been his worst nightmare, but as he started to feel her body clench against his and her nails dig into his shoulders he let his breathing go normal and focused only on the soft sound of their bodies moving together and the moans that she made when he pressed a little farther into her than the time before.
The choreography of their lovemaking needed no verbal directions and when she started to hold onto him a little tighter and her breath started to catch in her throat, he pressed a little harder and moved a little faster until only the movement of their hips and the sounds of both of their moans filled the room.
His release caused his knees to go week and for an instant he thought he might drop her. As soon as the adrenaline of the moment hit every part of his body he suddenly felt the burning of the muscles in his arms and legs. "Sugar?" He breathed out.
"Hmm?" She moved her hair out of her face and smiled at him.
"I gotta set you down."
She moved her legs and stood in front of him. "You ok?"
"Yeah," he said. He moved a hand and twirled her so that her back was to him and pulled her back against his front. "We need to shower and get to bed."
She nodded and moved her hands around to hug him from behind him. "You gonna stay awake that long?"
"Yeah," he said. He reached over her shoulder and grabbed the shampoo. He put some into his hand and put the bottle back onto the shelf. With both arms around in her front he lathered the shampoo together then moved his hands up to her head. His mouth pressed a kiss to her shoulder before he started to massage the soap into her hair.
"Are you good at everything you do?" she asked.
His hands stopped a moment and he closed his eyes. He froze there and swallowed. There were a few things that he could say that he was horrible at and at the thought of that he moved away from her. "You should wash that out. I'll just tangle it."
She stepped towards the water and Lance left her in the shower. He pulled a towel around his waist and he went into the bedroom and flopped down on the bed.
About five minutes later she came out wrapped in the hotel robe. He let his eyes land on her and he groaned. He sure wasn't making life easier for himself by the way he was handling things. "Are you gonna stay here tonight?" he asked with a nervous edge to his voice.
"That's up to you," she said, "I mean-it's your room and I do have mine uptown or downtown or wherever-" She stopped and looked around for a moment then walked over to her bag. He could see that she was nervous and fidgeting and he didn't blame her. "I know my itinerary is around here somewhere."
"I wasn't asking because I wanted you to leave," he said.
"Is it ok?" she asked, "I mean you--"
"No." He shook his head and looked at her as if the comment was ridiculous. All he seemed to do today was to put his foot in his mouth with her and there was no explaining why. "You don't have to report to anyone tonight do you?"
"Nope," she said, "I've just got to make my flight out tomorrow to LA at eleven."
He rolled over onto his side and propped his head up and watched her as she undressed. She didn't turn away from him at all, she just slid into her bra and underwear and threw on her old shirt. "I have to be up around eight to go to a shoot over at MTV."
"You want a clean shirt to sleep in?" he asked.
She shook off his offer with a nod. "I guess I'll leave when you do then."
Lance got off the bed and went to grab her a shirt. He turned the shirt around until it was faced so that all she had to do was slip into it.
She backed away from him when he came towards her. "Don't."
He moved towards her and finally cornered her. He hugged her to him. "I'm sorry."
"You're sorry?" she asked, "Sorry for what?"
He pressed his lips to her cheek. "I'm messing this up."
"You're not messing it
up," she said brushing him off. She moved away from him and back to her
bag. She yawned
"Hmm?" He turned his head a little towards her put looked at his cell phone wondering if he should call Carrah again.
"Can I ask you a favor?"
"I need to get my uniform dry cleaned." She didn't let her eyes meet his. "I can pay you back for it-"
"Don't worry about it," He pulled out his alarm clock and set the alarm then walked over to his side of the bed. He pulled back the sheets on the left side and put a knee down onto the mattress, but stayed standing up. "Dial the front desk and tell them what you need and what time you need it back and tell them to charge it to the room."
"Are you sure?" She went to grab money out of her wallet.
He crawled across the bed and strode across the room in what seemed like two steps. "Really it's ok."
"Are you sure?" she said, "I mean you already paid for the concert tickets and arranged dinner."
A laugh came from his lips. "Don't worry about it Colleen." He leaned and kissed her, leaving her wide eyed. "The tickets were free and everything else was to make up for me being a dick earlier."
"Really it's not that big of a deal. I know it's a pain in the butt to do."
"Do what you want then," he said and moved back across the room, "Clearly you have it under control."
As he lay down in bed she called the front desk and then put the clothes into the bag that she found in the closet before she came back over to the bed and crawled under the covers.
He lay on his side facing away from her then moved out of bed to turn off all the lights. When he found his way back to the left side of the bed he went to lay down and found that Colleen was on his side of the bed. "Move over sugar," he said.
"Not until you tell me what's wrong?"
"You know this is the second time tonight you've asked me that," he said, "You don't have to do that."
"Do what?" she asked.
"Pretend to care," he said, "After tomorrow I'm sure that neither of us will want to remember tonight anyway."
"You know that's a shitty thing to say to a girl," she said and rolled away from him.
"What the hell?" He said. "I meant I didn't want to remember the way I've treated you. I don't know what it is, but it seems like all I do is mess up with you."
"Lance get in bed." He heard her pat the mattress and a moment later when she curled herself against him he took a deep breath of air.
"You seriously have had some messed up relationships."
"You can't even breathe without thinking that you're going to mess up. Some girl must have messed you up."
"Two girls actually," he said suddenly thinking of Patty and Gabby. He hadn't heard from them in a few weeks. He'd emailed Gabby every once in a while, but hadn't heard much out of them since they'd gone back to Europe. "A girl that I liked a few weeks ago...months ago...whatever and her daughter."
He held his breath and shook his head. "Don't worry about it. I'll make this up to you...I'm just not myself right now."
"Well then who are you?"
He closed his eyes and pretended to start to snore. She said his name three times then seemed to get the idea that he was asleep and was quiet.
The alarm went off and she felt him pushing her away so that he could turn off the beeping noise. He swore in a groggy voice and turned back towards her, laying down on his back for a moment before he coughed. "Sugar?"
"Sugar I gotta get up and get a shower. Are you gonna stay asleep or are you gonna come with me?"
She opened her eyes and smiled at him. She hadn't forgotten the night before and how he'd avoided the subject of their talk and the tension there, but she wasn't going to let that ruin another day. "I'll go with you. I need to get over to the airport anyway and see about getting back to LA."
"You can stick around if you want."
"No." She pushed herself up and shuffled towards the bathroom. "See you in there."
Her eyes hurt as she turned on the overhead light. She looked at herself in the mirror only for a moment then slid out of her clothes and into the shower. She went into her morning routine, this time using his shampoo instead of hers. She could have gotten her travel bag, but decided that the sooner she got out of there the sooner this strange trip would be over.
When he stepped into the shower with her he plastered himself against her back and hugged her. "I'm sorry about--"
"No sorrys." She pushed his hands away a little and moved to wash the soap out of her hair. "Just leave last night in the past and we'll have a good morning, ok?"
He nodded and moved around to shampoo his hair and wash with her. There was nothing sexual about their time in the shower that morning. They did what they needed to do and then stood side by side at the bathroom sinks as they got ready. While she braided her hair into a fresh French braid then did her make up before they heard a knock at the door.
"It's the dry cleaning." He went and got her clothes for her and came back in. "Where do you want me to hang this?"
"On the door," she said, "I'll change in a minute."
"Ok," he said and hung the stuff up then came back over to her. He kissed her cheek. "I like you out of your uniform instead of in your uniform."
"Thanks," she said with a laugh.
"You know, I was thinking that I'm gonna be out in LA in a few days. We should hang out."
She stopped and leaned against the counter. "Hang out or sleep over?"
"You know that's probably the first time you've said--that's the first time you've actually called me by my name since yesterday--"
He leaned against the counter as he poured gel into his hair and ran his hands through his hair. "I didn't mean to be like that. I--"
"It's ok," she said, "Ok...so you were saying about being in LA."
"I'm gonna be out there because of this competition thing and my friends will probably be around if you wanted to hang out or whatever."
She nodded and turned back to her make up. "If I'm in town I'll definitely meet up with you for lunch or whatever."
Twenty minutes later they were making their way out of the room. She had hoped to avoid his friends since she was coming out of his room the next morning after a night of sleeping with him, but when she saw all of them she could tell that they wouldn't notice. Three of them had women of their own on their arms and the fourth had his phone to his ear speaking to someone softly about going back to sleep and that he would be calling her later.
None of the group spoke as they waited for the elevator. Lance finally turned to her and handed her a card. "I should be out there in like two days. My number--" He handed her a small piece of paper. "You can call me any time. The top number is my cell and the bottom one is the office in Mississippi."
She looked over at the others and they weren't paying attention then found him kissing her. "I can't do this downstairs, but I didn't want to mess up again and not do it."
"You guys ready?" the body guard was saying.
Everyone nodded and the guys filed into the elevator. One of the girls caught her arm when she started to move towards the door. "Don't go with them."
"Sorry. I didn't mean to--"
"It's ok," she smiled, pushing her hair over her shoulders. "There's a huge crowd out there and it's better if you don't go with them."
Tension filled the floor they were on as she saw the last of Lance's eyes as he disappeared behind the sliding doors of the elevator. "I'm Dani."
She nodded. "I'm Colleen."
"Nice to meet you."
"Same here." She looked around uncomfortably. She looked at her watch and tried to calculate how long it would take her to get the airport. "Think it's safe to go down? I need to catch a flight."
Dani nodded and pulled out a ringing cell phone. "Hi honey." She looked at Colleen. "Sure honey. Tell Lance that it's taken care of and I'll meet up with you guys at 21 for lunch."
Colleen stared at her toes for a minute.
"Lance wanted to make sure that you got into a cab ok. Do you need me to call one for you?"
"No," Colleen said, "I should be fine. Really."
"Well, I'm gonna go back to the room. I'll see you later."
Colleen's breath caught in her throat and she waved. She didn't understand if Dani knew the situation, but as the other girls disappeared along with Dani, Colleen was surprised to hear them all wishing her to have a good flight. She would have thought it was strange herself to hear them saying those words, but wearing her uniform gave away where she was headed.
When she had made it to the lobby she found that everyone had been right about the crowd, but while the guys were moving one way she went down the stairs another way and went to flag down a cab.
The phone had been ringing as she stepped out of the hotel, but she hadn't thought about picking it up until she saw who it was. She watched Lance get into his car and refused again with a wave to him so that he wouldn't try to hail a cab for her. "Ree?"
"Where the hell have you been? I have been calling you all night!"
She held the phone away from her when her friend’s voice squeaked out at her. "Ummm I kind of had a date...last night...It was it a date-“ She tried to think of something else to tell her, but there wasn’t going to be a way to get around this. Stacey knew her too well to let her get away with anything. “Yeah I guess that you could call it that... damn I don't know.”
"What is going on out there you are talking in circles?” Her friend had turned into her motherly figure over the last few months since they’d met each other in LA. It wasn’t that bad normally, but today Stacey seemed to hear something more in her voice than what she was telling her. “What the hell happened to you last night and what is this date thing?"
Colleen raised her hand again and looked back at the kids near the door. She wasn’t sure if she should say this out loud on the street, but Stacey wouldn’t stop asking about it until she got an answer. "Ummm ever watch MTV?"
"Don't try to change the subject on me."
She smiled at the way Stacey was questioning her. The girl had definitely spent too many hours at the law firm and in the court room to even try to talk to anymore.
"I'm not! You know that band NSYNC?' She took a breath wondering what comments might come from this next piece of information. "Well Lance was a passenger on my flight--" She tucked her bag up against her side. "--Yesterday."
"You mean the lickable one with the blonde spikes? No way! WAIT YOU HUNG OUT IN NEW YORK CITY--" Stacey's anger had turned instantly to jealousy, nothing too serious, but since Colleen traveled she seemed to always get into more adventurous situations than her. "WITH HIM?"
"Ummm," Colleen eyed the hotel again and took a deep breath. It all sounded so out of the ordinary she was still wondering if this all was a dream. "Yeah he kind of stole my bag and then made me go to the John Mayer concert with him to get it back"
"YOU SAW JOHN MAYER WITH OUT ME?"
"Umm yeah." She put a hand on her hip. "Needed my bag back and all." She knew that Stacey would probably try to convince her that it had been a bad idea to hang out with him, not because it had been a good time, but because Colleen tended to leap with her heart instead of her head sometimes. "Besides he's cute!"
"Hold on--" Stacey practically groaned at her. "I hear it in your voice you didn't just go to a concert with him..."
"Ummm." She thought she spotted one of his friends and their bodyguards and she didn't want to explain to all of them what she was doing there. "No comment?"
Stacey slapped her hand down on something in front of her making a sharp noise. "You know better than to hold out on me!"
"Listen Ree... I am trying to catch a cab so that I can go back to my hotel and grab my stuff and check out before I have to fly home."
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN GO BACK TO YOUR HOTEL?!?!?" Again there was a sound of Stacey hitting something. "WHERE DID YOU STAY LAST NIGHT?"
"Ree don't freak out..." she thought she saw a cab coming and waved her hand furiously at it. "Listen I will be back to LA later tonight... why don't we say you and me get together for a night of Ben and Jerry's."
"Fine... but don't think you are off the hook. Call me when you land."
