Somebody Needs You 26
The sound of snoring filled the room and his eyes flew open. He was hearing himself snore. His mouth stuck together with that hang over cotton mouth feeling and he was about to push himself from the bed when a glass of water appeared in front of his face and aspirin was shoved into his hand.
His eyes squinted at the light in the room and he felt his stomach heave once before he swallowed down some water then looked at the person that was now standing above him. "Colleen?"
"Who'd you think it'd be?" she asked with a slightly angry tone to her voice.
"I thought--” He scratched his head and lay back on the pillows stretching his whole body before he continued, "I thought you were in LA?"
"I was," she said, "I came here last night to try to talk to you and after being shut out of MTV and the after party I found you drunken and draped all of a girl--"
"I can explain--"
She sighed. "You don't have to--"
"It wasn't what you think it was--I meant what I said in Orlando and I'm not going back on my word."
"It's ok." She nudged his leg so that he'd move and she sat down on the edge of the bed. "Carrah told me who she was and that I shouldn't worry--"
"I was going to come to you and tell you--"
"I know you were. Carrah said that you got upset about some things and got yourself drunk off your butt, but insisted that you were on your way to finding me to--” She shook her head. "I don't know what you would have done in your state, but it's the thought that counts."
"Shit." He rubbed his eyes and looked around. "What time is it?"
"Just after noon," she said looking over at the clock.
"You haven't been stuck here all morning have you?"
"Meredith and I went shopping this morning while Justin was in the studio and I got back here about an hour ago and found you snoring so I thought I'd stick around and see if you got up."
"I'm sorry," he said.
"I know you are," she said, "Believe me. I know you are."
"I love you and I messed up--"
She cut him off. "I love you too."
"--and I think that I should have--" He stopped and looked at her. "You--?"
"I got to LA and was all ready to get on my flight up north and I did it thinking that it was the right thing to do, but by the time I got to Seattle I felt sick that I couldn't have done what was really the right thing to do. I shouldn't have questioned your motivations for saying what you said."
"No," he said, "You should have. At first I did need just somebody to be with, but tonight I realized that you were in love with me and were just afraid of me not loving you back as I was afraid of you not really loving me back." He sighed.
"I guess say anything was right then--" She said with a laugh.
"What?" he asked, "That Loydd Dobbler is the perfect man?"
"No," she said shaking her head. "You are, or at least you want to be--which says a lot."
Lance pulled her into his arms. "I do--" He hugged her for a moment then kissed her and smiled against her lips. "You aren't going to call me Loydd now are you?"
"No Lance," she said, "Not at all--unless you're forgetting that I need you and you need me."
He smiled at her and pulled her to lay with him on the bed with him. "I don't think I'll ever forget that."
