When they landed in Honolulu the guys were escorted off first with their team of security. There was a small crowd waiting for them in the terminal so they slowed down a bit to take pictures and sign a few autographs. "I’m not getting off till the screams have subsided." Dayna said as she sat back in her chair. The rest of the crew around her also waited until everyone else was off the plane, then they walked out to the near empty terminal.

"The vans are out front, let’s go." Robbie said as he ushered everyone towards the exit. "Your bags are already at the hotel."

"Jeez, you’d think we were cattle or something." Dayna rolled her eyes and followed the herd to the vans.

They drove a half-hour to their hotel and dodged the fans outside before they could check in and get their room keys. Dayna took hers with a heavy sigh and headed toward the elevators with her backpack hanging from one arm.

"Why are you all pouty Miss Dayna?" Trey asked as he leaned against the wall by the ‘up’ and ‘down’ buttons.

"I’m not pouty."

"You are too pouty, and there’s no reason to be. You get something like 6 hours off right now. You can hit the pool, go to the beach, go shopping. All that girly stuff you always complain you never get time to do." He laughed. "The media meet isn’t until what? Seven? And it’s here at the hotel so you don’t even have to be here till six. Lucky dog."

"I just spent six hours wedged between two smelly guards and a sound guy." Dayna said as she climbed onto the elevator.

"I don’t smell." Trey took a sniff at his armpits. "I smell like roses."

Dayna looked over at the big black man and had to laugh. Trey didn’t reek of body odor, but roses weren’t exactly what came to mind either, "You need help." Dayna laughed and hit the button for four.

"My room."

"Crew is on six." Trey shook his head.

"They gave me 419." Dayna looked at her key.

"Talent is staying on four, and except for the me and the other two, all the crew is on six." He explained. There were always three members of the security team on the floor with the guys, even if the talent and crew were separated.

"So I have to go back down and slap them around now?" She sighed and pretended to pout like a kid. "Trey, all I wanna do is drop my stuff and fall asleep under the sun, how come I have to put up with all of this crap?"

"Because today’s your day." He smiled as the doors opened on four.

"Fuck it. I’m going to 419, if it’s not my room they can come and drag me out later." She tossed her bag over her shoulder as she stepped off the elevator. She waved at the security that was assigned their floor and walked to the end of the hall to her room.

She was glad that it was on the end, that was one less neighbor that she had to listen to. Besides, in the case of a fire she was closest to the emergency exit. She laughed to herself and unlocked her door, glad to be alone for a minute.

Dayna dropped her bag near the bed and spun around to get a look at the room. They all ended up looking the same, and she knew she’d never remember this one in particular, but she looked around nonetheless. The walls were covered in pale green wallpaper with just a little fern design raised on them, the comforter was one she’d seen before somewhere, but she couldn’t quite place it. The carpet was the same almost everywhere, the brownish bluish almost grayish mix of berber.

She pulled the heavy drape back from the window and squinted as the sunlight poured into the room. Her view was spectacular, if she leaned just slightly to the left. The hotel across the way blocked part of her view of the beach, but the portion she could see was calling her name. A smile spread across her face as she took in the sight of Hawaii.

Her watch said 12:12pm and she calculated in her head how much time she’d need to get things ready for that night. If she changed quickly, she could be at the beach by 12:30 and she’d have a good five hours of sand and surf before she would have to come back to go to work. She silently thanked David for getting her there earlier, then dove for her bag to find her swimsuit.

A knock on her door startled her as she adjusted the waist of her dark red bathing suit. She checked herself in the mirror before reaching for the door. When Dayna pulled the door open the hallway was empty so she stepped out into the hall to see if anyone was walking away. She frowned when she didn’t see anyone, but then she heard the knock again.

"Dayna!" She heard the muffled shout. "Dayayayayna!"

"Justin?" She frowned and continued to stare at the empty hall. "Where are you?"

"In my room." He laughed.

"By your bathroom door." He said through the door.

Dayna laughed and shut the door to the hallway then unlocked the door by the bathroom and threw it open, "No way." She shook her head.

"Yes way!" Justin bounded into her room and bounced on her bed. "Yeah baby, we’ve got connected rooms!"

"Then I’m calling down to get a new room." She made an attempt to reach for the phone but he stopped her hand.

"No no no, come on Day. This’ll be fun."

"This will not be fun." She said as she tried not to smile. "I want peace and quiet."

"No you don’t, you want to have a good time."

"I don’t want to have a good time I want to sit in my room and mope around for four days by myself in the dark."

"No you don’t." He repeated. "Because Chris got that girls number and they’re gonna go out. And because you’re in Hawaii for crying out loud. And because we’re gonna have a good time and you need to come with us."

"Who’s ‘us’?"

"Me and Joe."

"You and Joe are going out?"

"Well shit, don’t say it like that." Justin flopped back on her bed and threw his hands over his head. "We’re going to go get in some trouble, and if we can talk JC into going he’s gonna come too."

"JC is 100% anti-trouble, you know that."

"Yeah, so it’s gonna be me and Joey. And you?"

"The last thing I need is trouble." Dayna shook her head.

"I think that’s exactly what you’re looking for in that." Justin looked at her from his horizontal position on the bed. "I never figured you for a bikini kind of girl."

"This isn’t a bikini. It’s just like a short tank top and underwear."

"That’s a bikini."

"A bikini involves lots more flesh and a lot less spandex."

"That… is a bikini." Justin pointed at her chest. "Are you going to the beach?"

"Yes. Alone. Come on, get out of my room so I can go."

"Well leave this door unlocked."

"I don’t think so." Dayna shook her head and pulled him off of her bed.

"Then trade rooms with Joey so he and I can share."

"You guys are scaring me. Are you sure you’re not going out?"

"Shut up." Justin laughed as he stepped through to his room. "His room is on the other side of mine."

"Oh, by Lance and Patty’s?" Dayna scoffed.

"Okay Justin? The very last thing I want to hear at night is the two of them going at it."

"You’d rather hear me and Joey?"

"You gross me out. Get out of here."

"I meant me and Joey being loud and obnoxious in my room! Sheesh." Justin tried to explain as she shut her side of the door on him.

"I know what you meant, and you gross me out." Dayna shouted back. She gathered up her beach gear and headed out by herself.

As soon as she stepped onto the sand she saw the crowd by the waters edge. Without having to get any closer she could tell one of the guys was in the middle of the crowd, and she wanted no part of that. She sighed and rolled her eyes, then turned around as she decided that the pool would have to do.

Dayna sat in her hair chair that evening waiting for the guys to show up for their media meet that night. Lance was the first through the door followed closely by Joey, "Hey Day, can I go first?" Joey asked.

She stood up and looked at Lance, "Do you care?"

"Nah, he can go." Lance shrugged and sat on the couch, then busied himself with his day planner.

"What’s the rush?" Dayna asked as Joey plopped himself in her chair.

"Patty’s met up with some girls down by the pool so I wanna cruise by before we do this thing." Joey smiled.

"How old are they?" Dayna cocked an eyebrow at him as she spritzed his hair with water.

"They’re having drinks at the bar with Patty, they’re over 21." He laughed. "Don’t worry, you know I cover my butt."

"I’m not even gonna comment." She said without a smile.

"So what’d you do today? You look a little pink."

"I went to the pool and was bombarded with teenies when Robbie came down to talk to me and they all found out I was with you guys." She sighed.

"Was there any bloodshed?" Joey smiled as Chris and JC walked in laughing loudly. They nodded ‘hello’ and walked to the back of the room to grab some drinks.

"Nope." Dayna shook her head slightly and reached for the Bed Head sculpting gel. "But I’m cranky now and my fuse is about this long." She held her sticky fingers less than an inch apart. "So I’d really recommend not pissing me off tonight."

"No problem." Joey smiled.

"Where’s the kid?" Dayna asked when she saw that Justin still wasn’t there.

"He got cornered in the lobby. Trey is with him." Chris said as he popped open his Mountain Dew.

"You’re next." Dayna said JC, ignoring Chris.

"Okay." He nodded and stood beside the chair. "So what’d you do today?"

"Pool." Dayna concentrated on making Joey’s hair stand on end. "You?"

"I did a little shopping." JC yawned. "Got the mandatory post cards and magnets and stuff for Heather and Ty."

"Sounds like fun." Dayna wiped her hands on the little hand towel stuck in the pocket of her shorts, then reached for the hair dryer.

"Eh." JC shrugged and pulled a hairbrush out of Dayna’s hair kit. He played with it for a minute, then set it back down.

When Joey was done he bolted for the door and JC dropped himself into the seat. Dayna did his hair then Lance’s before Justin came storming into the room, "Dang man, that’s insane. Hawaii crowds are always the worst." He laughed and sat in the vacant chair. "I mean, the best and the worst. They’re pretty calm and everything there’s just so many of them. I love it." He laughed again then closed his eyes as Dayna went to work on his curls.

He sat still while she trimmed his sideburns, then began to bounce when she got around to styling his short hair, "You know, one of these days I’m just going to go postal and shave your head."

"Ha, I don’t think so." Justin said, keeping his eyes closed.

"Ha, I think so." Dayna mumbled and tried to get the curls to do what she wanted. There was one little section with a mind of it’s own and would not go how she planned. She finally dropped the brush in Justin’s lap and grabbed at his hair with both hands.

"Hey ow…" Justin whined.

"Your hair is not cooperating." Dayna frowned.

"Well I’ll have a talk with it tonight, in the meantime can you let go of your death grip?" Justin’s neck was tense as he held is head still in her hands.

"It looks fine." JC said from his corner. "Get outta here Justin, before she really does shave you."

Justin took that as his cue and stood up. He ran his fingers through his hair as he checked himself out in the mirror, with that quick move his hair fell perfectly into place. "Looks good, thanks Day." Justin blew a kiss in her direction before he headed for the door.

"Next." Dayna sighed and rubbed her eyes with the back of her hands.

"Oh oh! Me me!" Chris laughed and sat in the seat. She dampened his hair with the spray bottle and reached for her scissors. She wiped the remnants of Justin’s hair off on her towel and yawned as she worked the fingers of her free hand through his hair.

Chris couldn’t sit still in the chair and he kept turning to talk to JC who was in the far corner of the room, "So after the thing tonight what’s the plan?"

"Luau." JC picked up a Surfing magazine and flipped through the pages.

"I thought that was our last night?" Chris turned his head slightly.

"We have one then too. They’re for different things though. The one tonight is to welcome us here, and the one before we leave is a benefit to raise money for the Save the Oceans Foundation." JC explained as Dayna trimmed Chris’s hair.

"Hold still." She grumbled as she placed her fingers on either side of Chris’ head to keep him steady. "I can’t cut your hair if you keep moving."

"It doesn’t even need to be cut."

"It’s covering your ears and it looks straggly; it needs to be cut." She uttered just above a whisper, as she clipped the hair at his neck.

"I’ve gotta look good for my date tonight, right Lance?" Chris turned his head slightly to look at Lance.

"Yep." Lance nodded, but he was too involved in his date book to look up.

"I swear Chris, knock it off." Dayna sighed and dropped her hands to her side.

"Just leave it, it doesn’t need to be cut." Chris argued back as a tiny smile played on his lips.

Dayna refused to smile back, "I can’t just stop now, I’m only halfway done cutting. Let me finish." She placed one hand on top of his head and used it to keep him still like she would if she were cutting a childs hair.

Chris just sat there and snickered as she dropped her scissors on the counter while keeping her hand on his head. After she combed his hair she needed both hands to work the gel into it, and Chris took that opportunity to stretch his neck.

"Chris." She said sharply.

"What?" He met her eye in the mirror and gave her his innocent look.

Dayna tossed the comb in her hand toward the supply kit and walked out of the room, grumbling several rude comments under her breath.

JC and Lance looked up and watched as the door swung shut behind her. "Man, what’s up her butt?" Chris asked.

"Um… you?" JC stood up and followed Dayna out the door.

"Me?" Chris laughed and looked at Lance, who had gone back to his day planner.

JC trotted down the hall and saw Dayna turn the corner leading to the elevator, "Dayna! Hang on."

"I’m gonna smack him JC." Dayna turned around, tossing her ponytail over her shoulder.

"He’d deserve it."

"What’s his problem?"

"He’s just trying to get under your skin." JC smiled and maneuvered himself so that he was between her and the elevator doors.

"Well it’s working."

"Plus, like you said, you’re cranky and your temper is ready to flare."

"You think I’m overreacting?" She asked as she straightened her back to prepare for another argument.

"Well yeah, a little. I mean, Chris is annoying, you know that."

"That doesn’t give him the right to – "

"To what? Give you a hard time?" JC smiled. "That’s what we do best though Day. Our main goal in life isn’t to outsell any other artist, or headline a stadium tour… it’s to make you cranky."

"Shut up JC."

"Maybe you’re PMSing or something, but you’re definitely not yourself today."

"I’m going to pretend you didn't just say that." Dayna ducked past JC and stepped onto the awaiting elevator. "I’ll see you tonight at the party thing." She said before the doors shut. She closed her eyes and rode down to the lobby and escaped outside to take a walk before they were all due at the "Welcome to Hawaii" party.

The entire group arrived at the luau after the media meet and immediately dispersed to mingle with everyone else. It was getting late so the dinner was served right away. Dayna walked around after eating to introduce herself to some of the local crew that were helping to make these Hawaiian concerts as special as the ones stateside, while using a completely different stage.

After more than a half hour of visiting Dayna took her glass and went to stand by the drink table. "Dayna! There you are." Chris laughed as he walked up with Celeste at his side. "You know Celeste."

"Yeah, hi." Dayna smiled and shook her hand. She gave Chris a look that said he didn’t waste any time, then smiled at Celeste, "So was that the most awkward request you’ve received at 30,000 feet?"

"Not hardly." She laughed lightly and tucked her hair behind her ear; "It was definitely one of the more original though." They all laughed and Dayna could see that Chris as having a great time.

"This is kind of overwhelming, so I think we’re going to go for a walk or something." Chris said as he looked to Celeste for her opinion.

"That sounds good. I’ve got to be back at my hotel early though, I have two commuter flights tomorrow and the first is at six."

"I think I can handle that." Chris nodded, then they waved at Dayna as they headed for the exit. She felt a rush of happiness for them as she watched them walk away, Celeste had been a good choice.

"Hey there trouble, you’re looking pretty giddy." JC smiled as he sauntered up to where Dayna was standing.

"It’s been a good night."

"Yeah, so far. Do you have plans for after?"

"No, I’m actually cutting out in a couple minutes to go back to my room." She took a sip of her non-alcoholic Mai Tai.

"Not really." She shook her head.

"Do you want some company?"

Dayna sighed and looked up at him, "If you want to come over you can. I’m just gonna watch a movie or something."

"That’d be cool." JC nodded and scanned the crowd.

Dayna shrugged and set her drink down on the table beside her, "Are you ready to go now?"

"Well I’ll need to make the rounds to say good bye to everyone. I’ll meet you at your room though, okay?"

"Yeah. I’ll see if anyone else wants to ditch this party and join us."

JC blushed, "Yeah… yeah okay." He nodded. "I’ll see you in a few."

Dayna let Trey know she was leaving, then went to find the other guys to see if they wanted to go. She didn’t see any of them until she made it to the exit where Joey was sulking near the corner, "Hey, movies in my room tonight?"

"I’m grounded, can’t leave my room." He laughed.

"Grounded? What for?"

"Nothin." He shook his head and stood up. "I’ll catch ya tomorrow." He walked away before she could get the juicy details, but she made a mental note to ask the next day.

Dayna left the party and took her sandals off to walk barefoot up the beach to their hotel. She let herself into her room ten minutes later and went straight to the bathroom to wash off the sand and sunscreen from the afternoon.

When she was done she dressed in her pajamas and pulled her wet hair into a quick french twist, held off her neck with a claw clip. She stuck her toothbrush in her mouth as JC knocked on her door.

Dayna opened the door to let him in and he laughed at the site in front of him, "You’ve got toothpaste on your nose." He reached out and wiped it off before she could say anything, then wiped it on his shorts.

"Gross." She said with a mouthful of foam. "Hang on." She ducked back into the bathroom to spit and rinse her mouth out with Listerine.

"It’s stuffy in here." JC complained from the other room.

"Then open a window." Dayna wiped her mouth and reached for her face mask jar.

"Okay." He said under his breath as he looked around the room. She hadn’t had time to unpack completely, but she had the important stuff out. Her cell phone and pager were on the nightstand, as well as a small framed picture of someone he could only guess was her mom, and finally her lip balm that she was never without.

JC sighed then walked over to the window and threw the drapes back. He stood at the window and struggled to get it open for a few minutes to no avail. He shook it and pulled it, then finally stood back and just stared at it for a second, "There must be some trick." He mumbled under his breath.

"Did you unlock it?" Dayna asked from the bathroom as she applied her facial mask.

JC frowned and reached over to flip the little metal lock. The window opened effortlessly when he tried it next and he shook his head at his own stupidity. "So Chris is out with that stewardess lady?"

"Celeste, yeah." Dayna smoothed her hair away from her face and walked out to the room. JC looked up and saw her purple face mask but didn’t say anything. "And Joey is grounded."

"Grounded? We’ve been here less than a day, what’d he do?"

"He doesn’t want to talk about it but he’s not allowed to leave his room."

"Ouch." JC cringed then laughed.

"Yeah, but I think he’s just going to stay at the luau all night, so it’s not like he’s over there in his room rotting or anything."

"True." JC nodded. "So no one’s coming over to watch movies with us?" He asked hopefully.

"Nope. In fact, why are we even doing this? I mean we should go do something. We’re in Hawaii, we can watch movies anywhere, how many times can we see the sunset from Waikiki beach?"

JC looked out the now open window, then back at Dayna, "It’s after ten, the sun has already set."

"You know what I mean."

"You want to uh, go out?" JC asked as his heart rate accelerated. He knew what she meant, but just saying the words made him all nervous.

"I just feel like we’re wasting precious time sitting in here watching "Die Hard" for the ninth time." She sat on the edge of the bed and rubbed lotion into her legs.

"We’re not watching "Die Hard" again." JC turned away from the window and leaned back against the wall.

"I still haven’t seen part two."

"We’re not watching it." He shook his head. "And besides, you’re not exactly dressed to go out." He looked her over in her mens boxers and sports bra. Not that he minded her attire, he didn’t mind at all, but she wasn’t dressed to go out.

"I could change."

"And that gunk on your face?"

"It’s not gunk, and it washes off easily. I could be ready to go out in ten minutes."

"It is gunk, and I’d rather hang out here tonight." JC yawned. "We’ll go out tomorrow."

"Promise?" Dayna smiled and set her lotion on the table.

JC blushed slightly, "Yeah I promise."

"Cool." She laughed and leaned back on her arms, "So… did you bring a movie?"

"No I – there’s some good stuff on pay-per-view." JC clicked the TV on and turned it to channel 99. "What would you like to see? We’ve got "Miss Congeniality", "Almost Famous", "What Lies Beneath", "Toy Story 2"? What do you think?"

"I haven’t seen any of them, you choose."

"I haven’t seen them either." JC reached for the little weekly TV guide booklet on the nightstand. "Here, I’ll tear out the pictures and we can fold them up and choose that way."

"Okay." She nodded and watched as he flipped through the booklet and tore out the pages advertising the movies he’d listed off. JC folded them into small squares and held them in the palm of his hand.

JC held his hand out to Dayna and she picked the one closest to her, "What Lies Beneath. Isn’t that a scary movie?"

"I don’t know, I haven’t seen it." JC laughed.

"If it’s scary, you may have to stay here. I don’t handle scary movies well."

"Okay." JC nodded, thrilled that she had chosen that one, the only scary movie in the bunch. He keyed in the code and kicked his shoes off as he leaned against the headboard.

"I don’t have popcorn."

"I’ll live." JC smiled as she made herself comfortable lying on her stomach with her feet by his hips. "Do you want a pillow?"

"Sure." She looked over her shoulder and smiled as JC handed her a thin hotel pillow. She folded it in half and put it under her arms as the movie started on the TV in front of them.

JC was getting used to these movie nights and had really grown to like them. It was quiet time alone with her, even if she didn’t necessarily see it that way. He wasn’t much of a movie watcher, and didn’t particularly care if he saw any of the movies on pay-per-view… but he’d watch just about anything with her.

Her ambivalence was starting to get to JC though. He felt foolish for continuing his pursuit when she had made it crystal clear that she was only interested in one thing, his friendship. Dayna stood up suddenly and ran to the bathroom, "Ahh, I forgot my mask." She laughed as the door swung shut. Water started in the other room as JC laughed lightly then sighed. If at the end of this trip she still wasn’t acting interested, he’d lay off. There were plenty of other girls out there who would return his feelings.

Dayna returned several minutes later with a fresh clean face, and assumed her position at the foot of the bed again, "Much better." She smiled and turned to face the TV.

JC just smiled as the credits finished and the movie really started. He kept his arms folded across his chest for most of the movie, which turned out to be not as scary as he thought. During a particularly suspenseful part of the movie, JC could see Dayna’s back and neck muscles tense up and he grinned wickedly.

He quietly uncrossed his arms and moved his hand toward Dayna’s foot where he let it hover for a minute, until just the right time. Just as the character in the movie pushed the door open, JC reached out and grabbed Dayna’s ankle.

Dayna squealed and jumped a foot in the air as she tied to kick and turn at the same time. She ended up on the floor between the bed and the television with JC laughing hysterically by the head of the bed.

"JC!" She shrieked. He would have responded but he was laughing too hard, "You suck. Jesus, I almost wet my pants." She stood up and held her hand to hear chest as the adrenaline coursed through her veins. She panted slightly and smacked JC’s leg, "You think this is funny?"

"You jumped like four feet straight up." JC laughed and dodged her hand as she swung at him again.

"You scared the shit out of me." She tried to frown but ended up laughing with him. "You have to stay here now, there’s no way I’m spending the night alone in here."

"Fine." He laughed and held up his hands to ward off any other slaps she might send his way.

"Ah ha… I’ll bet that was your goal the whole time wasn’t it? You sly little shit. You wanted me to tell you that you had to stay the night, didn’t you?" She gave him a knowing smile, "If that was the case then forget it, I’ll deal with the chicks in my bathroom and doors swinging open by myself."

"I’ll stay, and no that wasn’t the plan. But it’s not like I’m complaining."

"Yeah, I noticed that."

"We’ll have to see how you are when the movies over. If you’re okay then I’ll go to my room. No big deal." JC shrugged, and hoped that she’d be too freaked out.

The movie ended to the sound of Dayna’s deep breathing at the foot of the bed, she had once again slept through the final twenty minutes of the movie. JC waited until the credits were completely over before he stood up and stretched. He said he’d see how she was when the movie was over, to decide if he would stay of if he would go… but since she was asleep he didn’t know how she was.

That may have been a thin excuse, but he couldn’t pass up this opportunity to stay at her request. Her command even. JC turned all of the lights off then grabbed a pillow from the head of the bed and dropped it beside Dayna’s; he wasn’t going to sleep a mile away this time.

JC rested his head on the pillow and stared at the back of Dayna’s head. The clip in her hair looked like it would be uncomfortable to sleep in, so he reached up and carefully pinched the ends and pulled it from her hair. JC dropped it on the floor then gently moved her hair out of his face. Her hair smelled like tropical fruit and he smiled as he inhaled deeply.

It took all of his self control to keep himself from not pulling her to him and wrapping his arms around her, just to feel what it would be like to spend a night that close to her; but instead he simply dropped his arm over her midsection and closed his eyes. For the time being, that would have to do.

Early the next morning JC’s pager alarm went off in his pocket. He silenced it before it could wake her and reluctantly removed his arm from around Dayna’s waist as he climbed out of the warm bed. She didn’t move a muscle as he stood up and slid his bare feet into his shoes, using the mattress to balance himself.

He ran his fingers through his hair in the partial darkness and sighed, her wake up call would be arriving shortly and he wanted to be gone before then. He scratched his jaw and looked down at Dayna sleeping on her side facing away from him. JC took a deep breath then leaned onto the bed, supporting himself with one hand on the mattress. He carefully placed his lips just under her ear on her jaw. "I’ll see you later, Day." He whispered. His lips lingered for a second before he unwillingly stood up and straightened his shirt. JC cleared his throat then grabbed his own room key from the nightstand and slid out into the hall.

He made it almost all the way to his room before Chris stopped him in the hall, "Damn, I never thought I’d see the day when you were up and dressed before me." He laughed.

JC laughed uneasily as he tried to hide his blush, "Yeah well I… I uh, slept in this. I’ll be ready in a half hour. We’ve got hair and make up in an hour right? Seven?"

"Yeah." Chris nodded and opened his room across the hall from JC’s.

"Hey, how’d your date go with the stewardess?"

"Flight attendant." Chris corrected him. "It went great, she’s awesome man, did you meet her at the luau thing?"

"Kind of." JC nodded and unlocked his door. "She seems cool."

"She is. I think we’re going out tomorrow too, we’ve got the day off, right?"

"Tomorrow? What’s that, Wednesday?"

"Yeah, we’ve got tomorrow off. Until the show I mean."

"Awesome." Chris laughed, "I’ll see you at seven."

JC nodded and waved, then shut the door behind him. He stripped on the way to the bathroom, leaving a trail of clothes from the front door to the bathroom. He stood under the hot water for a half hour trying to wake himself up and get himself moving for the day, then dressed in cargo pants and a t-shirt.

The itinerary for the day was packed, and he counted at least four different photo shoots and three interviews. He sighed and tucked his pager in his pocket; it was going to be a long day.

JC and the guys met up at seven as planned to get their hair and make-up done in the extra room at the end of the hall. Dayna yawned as she worked through them one at a time. When JC's turn came around she kept her mouth shut and tried not to blush as she smiled at him. She had awakened several times in the night, surprised to feel his arm around her waist; and even more surprised that she felt comfortable with it.

When she was done JC stood up and turned around to face her, "Thanks." He gave her a little half smile and tilted his head just so.

Dayna blushed uncontrollably and nodded, "You're welcome."

"You busy tomorrow?" He asked in a hushed voice.

"Yes." She answered automatically, her old instincts kicking in as she busied herself with her combs.

"You are?" JC smiled.

"Yes." Dayna said again, meeting his eye.

"What are you doing?"

"I'm going to the pool." She said the first thing that came to mind.

"Ahhh." JC reached for his backpack. "Then I guess I'll just see you tonight at the show."

"Yeah." Dayna nodded and watched him go, leaving her alone in the room. She took a deep breath and wiped her hands on her shorts. "Snap out of it Dayna." She whispered to her reflection.

She cleaned her area and packed everything away before heading back to her room. She had the whole day free until the show that night and she intended to get some sun.

"Hey Dayna!" Patty called down the hall as Dayna slid the keycard into the slot on her door.

"Hi Patty." She plastered a smile on her face before she turned around, it was really too early to be legitimately happy.

"Hey since the guys are going to be busy all day, would you like to hit the beach with me? I tried to go yesterday with Lance but… well you know how the crowds can be." She squished up her nose and laughed.

"I uh…" Dayna had been looking forward to a few hours on the beach, but Patty wasn’t part of the plan. Of course at that point she couldn’t say no and then show up at the beach alone. Dayna swallowed her pride and said, "Sure, I was going to head down in a couple minutes. Let me change and I’ll meet you at your room."

"Great! Thanks Dayna, I hate going to the beach alone." Patty smiled and adjusted the woven grass purse on her arm. "I’ll see you in a minute." She let herself into her room, then Dayna did the same.

Dayna dug through her bags and pulled out her most flattering bathing suit. It was a crocheted yellow two piece that made her tanned skin glow. She tied her dark hair back with a red scrunchie and pulled her cut off jean shorts on over her suit.

When Dayna stepped into the hall a few minutes later with her beach bag over her arm she saw Patty standing against the wall. Tall, gorgeous, blonde and curvy Patty. Her bikini was tasteful, and yet completely complimentary to her body and skin type. The solid midnight blue top matched perfectly with the midnight blue and green printed bottoms, and her tiny silver belly button ring only added to the cuteness.

"Are you ready?" Patty asked with a pleasant smile.

Dayna fought the urge to run away as she nodded, "Yeah, let’s go."

The girls walked down to the beach and set up their towels in the middle of the sand, "This is heaven, look at this." Patty smiled out at the ocean. "I’ve always wanted to come to Hawaii."

"It’s nice."

"Oh it’s better than nice. I grew up in the Midwest where the nearest ocean was a two days drive away." Patty laughed and sat on the towel with her knees up to her chest. "Lance understands that you know? Since he grew up in Mississippi and everything. He’s always so – " She stopped herself and shook her head, "No guy talk today. If I start to do that again just tell me to shut up."

"Okay." Dayna smiled, that would be no problem. She straightened her towel and lay down on her back with the sun beating on her face.

"So have you been to Hawaii before?"

"Yeah, right after I picked up the tour we came out to tape a promo thing."

"I’ll have to come back when it’s not so hectic." Patty lay down beside Dayna and closed her eyes. "All I need now is a Pina Colada."

"And a man that doesn’t speak a word of english." Dayna added softly as she closed her eyes.

"A man who doesn’t speak english?" Patty asked with a curious smile.

"Yeah, that way he can’t talk back or give me attitude." Dayna laughed lightly as Patty joined in.

"You’re right, that sounds great to me. A Pina Colada and a Latin man."

"Ooh, Latin. I like the way you think." Dayna smiled. "But isn’t um, you-know-who the exact opposite of a Latin man?"

"Yeah." Patty shaded her eyes and looked over at Dayna. "But he’s my reality, the Latin man is only a fantasy."

"You wouldn’t rather have the fantasy?"

"Not when reality is almost perfect." Patty laughed and leaned back on her towel. She was wrong though; Lance was perfect, and Dayna’s fantasy.

The girls laid out for a couple of hours before Dayna’s stomach growled and they decided to grab some lunch at a nearby shopping center. "There’s one up the street a couple blocks, we walked there yesterday."

"We could just go to the hotel."

"Ugh, there are fans all over the place there. If we hit the mall we can get Panda Express." Patty laughed. "Besides, I want to look at t-shirts for my little brothers."

"Oh, okay." Dayna stood up and shook out her towel before wrapping it around her waist. Patty did the same and they walked off the sand onto the sidewalk with their sandals in their hands. "You have little brothers?"

"Yeah, three of them." Patty crinkled her nose again in a way that Dayna was sure Lance found totally adorable. "They’re okay though. I don’t get to see them so much since I left for school, but you know what they say, ‘absence makes the heart grow fonder’ right?"

"Yeah." Dayna nodded. "Where do you go to school?"

"MIT." She lowered her voice a notch. "I’m one of those braniac kids no one liked in high school." She laughed and shook her head, tossing her hair over her shoulder.

"Wow… MIT. That’s um… that’s awesome." Dayna forced a smile, "Great, so she’s not only pretty and sweet, she’s intelligent too." She thought to herself.

"What about you?"

"No I don’t go to school."

"Where did you graduate from?"

"Jose Eber." Dayna blushed.

"Oh that’s cool. Do you have brothers or sisters?"

"No. It’s just me."

"You’re lucky, there are times I wish I could have been an only child too. I guess I was though for like ten years, my brothers are all a lot younger than I am."

"It was quiet." Dayna laughed

Without her consent, Dayna found herself almost liking Patty. She tried to stop it but all of her snide remarks came out sounding pleasantly sarcastic. Dayna hated it but she could see how Lance fell for this girl, and how he could want to spend every minute with her. She was nice and talkative, inquisitive and caring without being overly so.

By the time they finished their lunches and bought a few shirts for Patty’s brothers, Dayna began to think that Lance wasn’t worthy of Patty.
