JUST THE TWO OF US
EJ shut the door behind them securely leaving the guards and the rest of
the world outside. She'd been waiting for weeks to see him and wanted just
him for a while. She thought she deserved that much. She'd been planning
this little get away most of the day, but this was the moment to see if she
was bold enough to go through with it.
"I think it's shut," Lance said with a laugh from behind her.
"Just making sure," she said giving the door a final pat shut before she
turned to face him. She still needed to lean against the door for a moment
to prepare herself for what she was about to do. She wasn't that great at
seduction, but she thought that she should at least try.
"Are you gonna take a shower?" he asked putting his towel down on the back
of a chair. He had his phone to his ear listening to what she guessed were
his messages, but he was looking at her waiting for an answer.
The response didn't come out with words. She took a deep breath and straightened
her shoulders and walked towards him slowly, using that model-walk that she'd
seen people use. One foot a little in front of the other which made her hips
sway. She felt a little silly doing this, but when she saw the look on his
face changed to one of interest and intrigue she knew that her plan just
"So?" he asked when she was standing in front of him.
His expression showed that he was still a little clueless to what she was
about to do so she knew she needed to act on the moment. Taking his phone
from him she turned it off then set it on the table, "I was going to take
a shower, but the question is--" She put a hand on his chest and made a tapping
motion on his skin with each of her next words. "Are you coming with me?"
He tipped his head to the side, raised an eyebrow and smiled, "Oh so that's
how it is?"
"I wasn't suggesting anything Mr. Bass," she said, "I just thought that since
we're in the desert that we should conserve water."
He looked like he wasn't too sure about her idea, she figured he was just
going to give her crap about it all before he gave in as part of the little
flirting game they were playing. "So this sharing is for the environment?"
Her arms slid around his waist and pulled her body to his, holding him close
to try to steal some heat from him. The air conditioning was on and she was
starting to get cold. "I know you like your charities so I thought I'd add
a new one to your list," she said.
"So what exactly kind of services is this new charity looking for?" he said,
"Do I need to sing or--"
"Kisses," she said boldly and moved to capture his bottom lip in hers. "Just
kisses and well as the saying goes...you wash my back I wash yours."
"I hope we wash more than our backs," he said with a smile then leaned to
place a kiss on her neck.
"Oh, we will," she said with a smile.
"What have you been planning Miss Emma?" he finally asked.
"Nothing much Mr. Bass," she said, "Just a little rest and relaxation for
Just as she said that his phone rang. He reached to pick it up and for a
moment she thought that he'd answer it, but he didn't/ He switched it off
and placed it back on the table then leaned and kissed her. "Much better,"
"Are you sure you won't be getting any important calls?" she asked suddenly
remembering who he was and who might be calling him.
"Yes," he said, "I'm sure."
"Really?" she asked.
"Tonight is yours," he said, "Do whatever you want with it."
"Oh really?" she asked.
"Yep," he said, "But for the moment I really do think that we need a shower."
She nodded and took his hand and they walked into the bathroom.
It seemed natural for them to undress side by side and step into the shower
together. There wasn't much conversation as they washed and kissed and cuddled.
When they were done they made their way out into the bathroom wrapped in
hotel robes Lance went straight for the menu for room service while EJ wiped
more of the water from her hair.
"Dinner movie then bed?" he asked as he began to dial.
EJ made her way over and hugged him while he looked over the menu.
"What do you want?" he asked.
She looked at the menu and wrinkled her nose. "I'm not craving anything."
"What would you have if you could have anything you wanted?" he asked.
"Peanut butter cups, M&M's, and French fries and a shake."
"Just a little health food?" he asked.
"I'm sorry," she said, "I'm a closet junk food junkie."
Lance leaned and kissed her. "Want ketchup with your fries?"
She paused for a moment, "You aren't seriously going to order me that?"
"Yeah," he said, "What's the fun of having room service if you can't have
what you want?"
"Are you serious?" she asked.
He nodded and picked up the phone, "What kind of shake?"
"Chocolate," she said with a smile, "And get ranch dressing for my fries."
"Sure thing," he said then dialed the phone.
EJ went and sat down in the living room area and watched him.
"Yeah," he said, "I'd like room service for--" He took a breath and listened
for a moment, "Yeah, I need M&M's, Peanut Butter cups, an order of French
fries from McDonalds, ranch dressing, and a chocolate shake, and a medium
cheese pizza and a six pack of coke."
Pulling a throw pillow up to her chest she sat and closed her eyes for a
moment while she waited for the phone call to be over.
"You aren't that tired are you?" he asked.
She nodded that she wasn't and felt the couch move next to her as he took
a seat. He pulled her up to him so she was leaning against his chest and
held her close, moving her hair out of the way a little. "I'm just resting
"Sure you are," he said, "I think you got some sun today."
"Really?" she asked, "I would hope that I did...Living in Florida these days
doesn't necessarily guarantee getting a tan. I've been so busy that it's
been hard for me to get a minute to myself."
Lance sat up straight for a moment, "That reminds me. We're going to be down
in Mexico for four days or so at the end of the tour and I wanted to know
if you'd come down there with me."
"I don't know," she said.
"Please," he pleaded, "I'm barely going to see you this trip and I--"
"Lance its not that I don't want to see you, but with the shop and everything
it's hard to get away," she explained.
She loved the way he frowned at her.
"The best I can do for the moment is tell you that I'll try my hardest to
rearrange the schedule so I can go...ok?" she said a moment later leaning
Lance pushed himself up off the couch, "That's fine."
EJ watched him walk over to the television and turn it on even though the
remote had been sitting next to them on the coffee table.
"Lance?" she asked.
"Mind telling me what's wrong?" she asked.
He kept his back to her and flipped channels for a moment. "It's nothing."
"Tell me," she said then laughed, "Or I'm gonna have to sleep on your back
Lance turned towards her and let out a sigh. "It's not really anything that
has to do with you or me or us...I'm just again reminded that my life is
so messed up and that I can't do anything when I want to."
"Oh," she said, "Well if you could do anything what would you do? And don't
give me the whole publicist made up crap."
"I'd quit all this and learn how to make hot chocolate," he said.
"Hot chocolate?" she asked not sure of where his comment was coming from.
"Yeah," he said, "I'd learn to make hot chocolate--" A smile formed on his
face. "--so I could get a job at Pop's and--" He hesitated and took a breath.
"--so I'd never have to be away from you again." Her expression must have
dropped or something because he instantly became nervous and started to explain.
"I didn't mean that like a stalker comment or whatever...I just--"
"Lance," she said getting up from her seat. "It's ok."
"It is?" he asked.
"I understand what you mean." She slid her arms around him and hugged him.
"I don't mean for this to be something more than it is, but for the moment
I want you to know that I--" He paused. "--I love you."
